A classic course that winds through a remarkable and picturesque property that is dominated by the dramatic North Saskatchewan River. That’s what members at Windermere have the chance to play when they tip it up at the Club’s course, rated #53 in all of Canada by SCOREGolf.

“It is a very good golf course, probably one that more people should be aware of,” says Doug Carrick, the Toronto architect who consults to the Club. A quick glimpse at the course shows why it garners so many raves. The setting for the course has few peers, with vistas of the sublime river valley creating an unparalleled aesthetic appeal.

The course was initially created by noted Canadian golf architect Robbie Robinson and rebuilt by Bill Robinson. The layout is exceptional; it’s eminently walkable, with mature trees lining rolling fairways. On the back nine Windermere connects with the North Saskatchewan River, creating both a challenge and a feast for the eyes. When combined it creates one of the most breathtaking venues for golf in Canada, but remains a facility where pace of play is exceptional for a membership that loves its course.

But Windermere is more than just stunning views. It is a strategic jewel where river valley meets parkland golf, with the front nine on the higher part of the property, with the closing holes situated nearer the water, creating interest through elevation changes, but remaining easily walked.

The one-shot holes really set Windermere apart, from the incredible par three 5th with its dramatic natural setting; to the steeply downhill 8th, with its spectacular view of the valley; and the 12th, a mid-length hole bounded by a pond on one side and the river on the other.

The course culminates with a grand finale—a challenging closer that plays 447 yards from the tips and requires an exacting drive and nimble approach. Strong enough to be tested by touring pros, but with a timelessness and enjoyable design that keeps you coming back, the course is the heart of Windermere. Strong and vital, it has few peers.

With golf at its core, Windermere offers members a practice facility with few rivals in all of Canada. Supported by PGA of Canada teachers, and with an active and vibrant junior program, Windermere’s facility allows you to work on all facets of your game, from putting on its three practice greens to striking full shots at its multiple targets or working on its three short practice holes.
