Monterey Pines is a golf course operated by the US Navy. It is located in eastern part of Monterey, CA. The course is a fairly inexpensive parkland course that is meticulously maintained. One of the reasons for this is that the Navy does not have the same water restrictions as California imposes on other courses in the area.
The course is very short, though it is currently being lengthened. At par 69, the course currently only has two par 5 holes. Most holes currently, are very reachable from the white tees, though there is a lot of deliberate length added for the blues. The challenges of the course include frequent out-of-bounds, often which is in the side of the prevailing winds, various carries over water hazards, and steep elevation changes at greens. Additionally, bunkers on this course are frequent, and green speeds are very fast.
