Hole #1, named Alwoodley, is a comfortable opening hole. The tee shot is best placed on the right side of the fairway. There is a mound in the center of the fairway that could present challenges to the shorter hitters, but longer hitters should more concerned with the water hazard on the right side that can be reached off the tee. A tee shot to the left side will make approaching the green more difficult, as it will have trees that may need to be avoided, and will require carrying the bunker.
The approach here is all about landing on the green. The bunkers short, and tree right will both punish anything that misses short. The green slopes back to front and fairway does run onto the green, so anything from the right side can be played low and running.
The green can be challenging in some positions, but should be a fairly straightforward two putt.
