The first hole is a dogleg right. A decent drive of about 180m from the back tees is required to clear the corner where there is a large landing zone. A fairway bunker long-left could punish overly-ambitious players, but it should be well out-of-play for most. The out-of-bounds will add risk to anyone trying to shorten the hole by cutting the corner.
The approach will benefit good drives as the green is flanked on threes side by very large bunkers, and a long drive could leave a short-iron or wedge in. However, the front of the green is open, so shorter hitters could still run one up onto the green.
