Hole 3 Discussion

The third is the most challenging hole on the course, and is a true test of a player’s mettle. The first thing to note is that the majority of the green hides directly behind the front bunker, not on the more visible right side above the pond. The area right of the green kicks strongly down towards the water.

The real challenge to this hole is the prevailing winds. Any headwind will force a player to club up one club, but more likely two clubs or else risk the bunker or lake. At 165 yards, this leaves most players reaching for long irons that make landing on the small green extremely challenging. To complicate this, missing the green left leave the real risk of bringing out-of-bounds into play.

The safest option is to bail out to the left side short of the bunker. It’s a much easier shot, that eliminates almost all of the risks involved in the hole. A properly placed shot just left of the bunker leaves a short chip or putt onto the green, and has a very good probability of giving the player a chance at par.
